The MASTERLINE DRO is the flagship of the BOBST machines in the flexo printing and rotary die-cutting product line

Based in north-west Germany, Packners will see the 600th rotary die cutter from Bobst delivered at the end of 2023.

The milestone installation will be of the Bobst MASTERLINE DRO with six printing units which will be placed into Packners’ new plant in Emsbüren.

Packners says it will use the high-end rotary die-cutter to create additional opportunities for new market segments in the production of high-quality corrugated board packaging.

The German company has also taken order of an FFG 8.20 EXPERTLINE inline machine with two printing units, a MASTERFOLD 230 A4 folding box gluer with a working width of 2.3m, and a SPEEDPACK automatic packing system including strapping.

This kit joins Packners pre-existing FFG 8.20 EXPERTLINE with four printing units which was commissioned at its previous site at the start of 2021 and has moved to the new plant.

The flagship rotary die cutter from BOBST, the MASTERLINE DRO can be configured for inside and outside printing in a single pass and benefits from a high level of automation.

Such automation features include automatic anilox roll change, fully automatic register settings with the Start and Go system, and integrated anilox roll cleaning.

For Packners, the machine will be equipped with a MULTILOADER pre-feeder, a SPEEDSTACK stripping unit and bundle stacker, along with a SPEEDPAL palletizer. This will give the company the ability to produce up to 12,000 sheets per hour whilst achieving fast job changes.

In addition to improving the profitability of work at Packners, the installation is also said to boost its sustainability.

This is due to consistent quality leading to minimised waste. This is helped by the Start & Go system which reduces start-up waste by around 38%, and a new inking system which reduces ink loss during wash-ups by around 50%.

“The MASTERLINE DRO combines more than 30 years of BOBST experience in building rotary die-cutters,” says Olivier Portal, technology sales manager for Germany and Switzerland at Bobst Lyon. “Some of the first DRO rotary die-cutters are still in use today.

“With its unique performance combined with the highest production quality and the simplest intuitive operation,

PACKNERS will be able to tap into new growth potential for high-quality corrugated packaging. We are very pleased that the company has chosen our upmarket flexo printing and rotary die-cutting production line.”

Bobst Lyon first began offering machines for printing and rotary die-cutting of corrugated board back in the 1920s with customers using the technology across all five continents of the globe today.
