Print-Leeds’ £1m investment leads to new division

Specialist printing house Print-Leeds has announced the launch of a new self-adhesive label division after investing £1m in a new press, finishing kit and MIS system.

The firm says the new division will be the perfect accompaniment to its existing offering, which already covers a wide range of labels applications.

The division will be supported by a new LS 350 SAI seven-colour press and a Digicon 3 modular finishing system, tailored to the company’s requirements.  

The Screen LS 350 SAI digital label printing press, the first of its kind in the UK, can operate at speeds of up to 60m/min.

Meanwhile, the Digicon 3 includes a flatbed screen printing module to add value with relief varnishes or vibrant screen inks, a delamination and relamination module for double-sided labels, two flexo modules and an autoslit module.

Rod Fisher, managing director of Print-Leeds, comments: “Adding self-adhesive labels to our offering is the obvious progression for the company.  

I don’t believe in the cheapest being the best – it’s the same with whatever you buy – our clients stay with us because we print a high-quality product and provide superb customer service

“It’s been a real lockdown challenge for me – organising the finance and recruiting the team and when Covid-19 hit I didn’t think I’d be able to achieve this – I thought my plans would be delayed.”

Forming the new division has also led to the creation of six jobs at the firm: three salespeople, one role in IT and estimating, and two technical staff deployed to operate the equipment.  

Malcolm Bunn has joined as sales director, with both Chris Whitehead and Jerry Dugdale joining as sales executives, while Sam Nightingale-Smith has joined in an IT and estimating and to lead the transition to management information system CERM.

“Over the years I have made a point of investing in new equipment so we are the most technically advanced printer,” Fisher says. “This technology means we can print the best quality products for our clients.  

“I don’t believe in the cheapest being the best – it’s the same with whatever you buy – our clients stay with us because we print a high-quality product and provide superb customer service.”
