Rebecca Eliott has taken on the role of sustainability and compliance manager at EBB Group
EBB Group has named Rebecca Elliott, who has been with the family-run company for almost 12 years, as its sustainability and compliance manager.
Prior to joining her family’s business, Elliott worked as an accountant for a small family construction business. “I loved it there and they offered me the head accountant role after 12 months,” she explains. “I just remember thinking ‘if I can make an impact for this family’s business, surely I should be putting all this effort into my own family’s business.’”
Elliott joined EBB initially under a trainee management program where she spent time in each department of the business. She then moved into project-based work which started with ensuring compliance with the EUTR.

“I really enjoyed this and from there I became responsible for the management of our ISO standards and Chain of Custody as well as significant projects on the Logistics side of the business,” Elliott says.
On the Compliance side of her new role, Elliott will continue to manage the ISO and Chain of Custody certificates as well as managing the company’s responsibilities for areas such as EUDR and Extended Producer Responsibility.
In terms of sustainability, EBB is aligning itself with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and in her new role, Elliott will oversee the focus of four key areas: the environment, supply chain, EBB’s people, and local communities. Elliott will ensure that the things the company implements is fully integrated into all areas of the business.

On why it is important for such roles to exist within companies, Elliott says: “We can’t expect Governments to mandate us to make changes, we must work with our key partners to come up with practical ideas that we can implement now. This is such a large topic, but big things can happen when we all take small actions to make change.”
Some of the benefits of having a sustainability role within a business highlighted by Elliott include helping the educate people and also helping to form collaborations and partnerships to innovate change.
With sustainability being such a huge topic, Elliott says the thing she thinks will pose the biggest challenge in her new role will be the amount of greenwashing currently happening.
“There is such a lot of data to shift through, understand, and make sure it’s correct,” she says. “We need to ensure that EBB’s message is clear, factual, and honest (even when the data may not be what we want it to be) and that our customers know they can trust what we are telling them.”

On what she is most looking forward to about the new role, Elliott says it is working with a diverse range of people, from EBB’s staff and supply chain, through to customers and local communities.
Having already been inspired by ideas staff have come up with, Elliott adds: “It’s exciting when everyone pulls together and makes a positive change to work towards the same goals.
“This role has the full support of EBB’s owners and Board of Directors, which was vital to me before accepting the new position. After celebrating our 100th year in business last year, I want to help ensure that EBB is a sustainable business for the future.”
